History

The proposal of the Rectorate of Iğdır University to open departments and divisions within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was examined at the higher education executive meeting dated 16.06.2011 and in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of the Law No. 2547 amended by the Law No. 2880, it was deemed appropriate to open the Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures and the Department of Arabic Language and Literature within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In line with this decision, the Department of Arabic Language and Literature started to operate within the Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures. However, there is currently no student intake.

Education and Training

The duration of education in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature is 4 years. The language of education is Turkish.

Infrastructure

• Modern Classrooms: Equipped with contemporary teaching tools to ensure effective learning.
• Library Access: Students have access to an extensive collection of digital literary works, academic journals, and resources necessary for in-depth research and study.
• Study Areas: Dedicated quiet zones and group study rooms are available to support different study preferences and group projects
• Akademik Destek Hizmetleri: Bölüm, öğrencilere eğitim yolculuklarında yardımcı olmak amacıyla akademik danışmanlık ve atölyeler sunmaktadır.

• In our department, there is no student admission.

Double Major Program: It provides students with the opportunity to earn an additional undergraduate degree in a field of interest outside their primary area of study. Through this program, students can complete coursework in two distinct departments and graduate with diplomas in both fields, broadening their academic and professional qualifications.

Minor Program: It allows students to take a specified number of courses in an area of interest outside their primary field of study. Upon completing the minor program, students receive an official certificate in that area; however, this does not equate to a second undergraduate diploma.

Aim of the Department:  The Department of Arabic Language and Literature aims to teach students Arabic language and literature through both classical and modern sources. The main objective is to educate qualified individuals who will contribute to the historical, cultural, diplomatic and economic relations between the Arab world and Turkey.

Current Status and Future of the Department:  Currently, the Department of Arabic Language and Literature is closed to student admission. However, the department plans to start accepting students in the future by strengthening its academic staff.

Employment Opportunities:

Students who graduate from the Department of Arabic Languages and Literatures are given the title of philologist. Graduates can work in universities, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, State Archives, libraries, museums, customs, embassies, consulates, press and media organisations and banks. They can also find the opportunity to work as a translator-interpreter in tourism agencies and private sector. Students who take formation also have the opportunity to work as a teacher within the Ministry of National Education.
